Sikkim
Sikkim is a small Himalayan paradise situated in the eastern Himalayan. Sikkim was ruled by the Namgyal dynasty till 1975. In the 1960s it even had an American born queen . In April/ 75, the erstwhile Himalayan kingdom became the 22nd State of India. Chogyal (King) Palden Thondup Namgyal was the last ruler of the Namgyal dynasty. The Namgyal dynasty that ruled Sikkim for about 333 years were the descendents of the Chogyal Trisong Dechen of Tibet.
Sikkim is verily the Eden Garden of India.It has mountains, 7,300 mtrs,and more in height and far greater in number per square kilometer than anywhere else on the globe. The rooftop of Sikkim stands more than 28,000 feet tall and is named Kangchenjunga, translated as “Five treasures of the Snow”, for its five summits. Also dubbed the Everest of India, Kangchenjunga is the third highest mountain in the world. Sikkim is legendary for its peaceful Nature and Simplicity.

Temperatures range from a minimum of 0 degree (in the mountains) to a maximum of 28 in summer. Often there is a pleasant breeze. Best perioud to travel is between March and June and September to November.
Extreme summer heat or unforgiving cold winter temperatures is practically absent.

Gangtok.
The town on a hilltop, at an altitude of 5,500 ft is the capital town of Sikkim. The mighty snow clad peak of Kanchenjunga forms a majesty backdrop to this beautiful capital of Sikkim.An important transit point on the busy trade route with Tibet at one time, Gangtok today has become the base from which tourists can plan their exploration of Sikkim at the same time providing a breather from the exhilarating experience of the rest of Sikkim.
M.G.Marg.
M.G.Marg is the centre of Gangtok and is a “No traffic, litter zone”. No vehicular traffic leaves it spacious and unpolluted. Shops are open from 8-7pm. There are numerous shops, restaurants,cafes, bars, souveniour shops on this road. No cars, so you can walk around freely. Nice place to spend the day and evenings.A perfect peaceful shopping street for all.
Old M.G.Marg is closed on Saturday, and new M.G, is closed on Tuesdays.
Taxis back and forth to M.G.Marg from Hotel :
Taxis are the most widely available public transport within Gangtok. No meter system, they have fixed rates. Taxis are very cheap within Gangtok. Plenty of taxis available outside the hotel.We can also arrange your taxi to town. It is on a sharing or reserving a whole cab basis.All taxis drop you to town or closeby. On your return back trip, please mention Vajra, as our landmark. For return trips to hotel, taxis are available at the following locations.
Childrens Park: (a flight of stairs above maintown).
New Market: Bang in town. The new M.G.Marg.
Hospital Dhara : Below the S.T.N.M hospital. This is a brief uphill, 5 minute walk from maintown.
One can also walk to town. We are not too far. Just 2km. The walk to town is a smooth downhill.
